FY 2027 Solid Waste Management Grant Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to provide technical assistance and/or training that reduces the solid waste stream, improves the skills of landfill operators, supports the closure of landfills, and evaluates current landfill conditions to determine threats to water resources. WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Eligible applicants are private, nonprofit organizations with IRS tax-exempt status; public bodies; federally acknowledged or State-recognized Native American tribes or groups; and academic institutions. Applicants must be legally established and located within a state and must have the capacity to provide technical assistance and/or training on a regional basis to associations. Eligible project locations must be defined as rural including rural areas and towns with a population of 10,000 or less.

FY 2026 Wildlife Crossings Pilot Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to fund construction and non-construction projects that improve the safety of the traveling public by reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions (WVCs) and, in doing so, improve habitat connectivity for terrestrial and aquatic species. Construction Projects include engineering, design, permitting, right-of-way acquisition, and other activities related to the construction of infrastructure improvements, such as the building of a wildlife crossing overpass or underpass. Non-Construction projects include planning, research, and educational activities that are not directly related to construction of infrastructure improvements, such as a hot spot analysis of WVCs. WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Eligible applicants are State Departments of Transportation; metropolitan planning organizations; units of local government; regional transportation authorities; special purpose districts or public authorities with a transportation function; Indian Tribes; Federal Land Management Agencies; and groups of any of these entities. Applicants other than a State DOT or a Federal Land Management Agency must document that the State highway agency was consulted while developing the application; applications without sufficient documentation will not be reviewed. For local governments and other recipients that are not Tribes or Federal Land Management Agencies, the State DOT must administer the grant, and no award can be made if the State DOT does not agree to do so.
