May 20-21, 2026 - FY27 Transportation-HUD funding bill

The House Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) Committee has released bill text for the next surface transportation reauthorization bill, entitled the BUILD America 250 Act. The bill includes $580 billion in highway and infrastructure funding, including:

  • $392.324 billion for the Federal-Aid Highways programs;  
  • $102.74 billion for Public Transportation;  
  • $64.656 billion for Railroads/Hazardous Materials programs;  
  • $17.75 billion for freight/multimodal transportation programs;  
  • $5.675 billion for highway traffic safety programs; and  
  • $5.04 billion for motor carrier safety programs.

Recently, the House Appropriations Committee released its draft FY27 Transportation-HUD funding bill in advance of tomorrow’s subcommittee markup. Under the draft bill, the Department of Transportation would receive $28.3 billion in discretionary funding—approximately $1.177 billion above the FY26 enacted level—while the Department of Housing and Urban Development would receive $71.38 billion, nearly $6 billion below the FY26 enacted level.
