NSDA has been watching and conferring on the high costs of Fire Apparatus. The International Association  of Fire Fighters recommendations to agencies, fire districts and local governments the following:

• Send letters to their state AGs asking for help/investigations and get their involvement (noting, as you know, lawsuits already underway)
• Ask Congress to increase funding for the AFG grants noting that with the large price increases, the funding available does not match need or the market. Would be helpful to provide examples:  ie, an apparatus quote in 2021 was $1.2 million and now for same apparatus the quote is $2.5 million etc.
  • Letters to their Representative/Senator etc.
• Those affected by apparatus delays or price increases can share their story at iaff.org/apparatus-form. Documented, real-world examples strengthen the case for accountability.
