Oct 1. 2025 - TFG Special Report: Local Impacts of a Federal Government Shutdown
Beginning at 12:01 am ET on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the federal government shut down after both chambers of Congress failed to pass a stopgap spending bill to temporarily fund the government before the first day of Fiscal Year 2026, which began on October 1. An estimated 750,000 federal workers nationwide have been placed on furlough until a government funding bill is enacted into law.
Some federal services and functions deemed essential (such as national security, law enforcement, certain health programs, Social Security, etc.) continue to operate during a shutdown, while other parts of the government (non-essential functions, many agencies, programs, research, etc.) are suspended or scaled back. This TFG Special Report addresses how a federal government shutdown may impact your local community. TFG will continue to provide updates as we learn more from Capitol Hill.
