NSDA Weekly Grant Update: May 23, 2025

This is your weekly grant opportunities update from The National Special Districts Association. Special districts are either eligible to apply directly, or able to partner with a qualifying entity to apply for any of the grants listed. 


New Grant Opportunities

Department of Homeland Security

FY 2024 Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Program

  • What does it fund? Provides resources for fire prevention education, training, code enforcement, investigation, safety programming, national projects, and related R&D.
  • Who's eligible? Local governments, tribal governments, nonprofits, higher education institutions, and fire departments
  • Total funding amount: $32.4 million
  • When is it due? July 3, 2025

FY 2024 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Program

  • What does it fund? Helps fire departments and organizations increase firefighter staffing to meet standards and provide 24-hour coverage.
  • Who's eligible? Volunteer, combination, and career fire departments, and organizations representing volunteer firefighters
  • Total funding amount: $324 million
  • When is it due? July 3, 2025

Department of Housing and Urban Development

FY 2025 Continuum of Care (CoC) Builds

  • What does it fund? Supports new permanent supportive housing through construction, acquisition, and rehab to reduce homelessness.
  • Who's eligible? Governments, housing authorities, tribal orgs, and nonprofits (including faith-based groups)
  • Total funding amount: $75 million
  • When is it due? June 26, 2025

Department of Justice

FY 2025 Abby Honold Program

  • What does it fund? Improves law enforcement’s trauma-informed, victim-centered response to domestic violence and sexual crimes.
  • Who's eligible? State, local, tribal law enforcement agencies handling sexual assault cases
  • Total funding amount: $6 million
  • When is it due? July 18, 2025 (Grants.gov); July 22, 2025 (JustGrants)

FY 2025 EIP Initiative

  • What does it fund? Supports effective policing and prosecution of domestic and sexual violence.
  • Who's eligible? Law enforcement agencies and prosecutors' offices
  • Total funding amount: $8 million
  • When is it due? July 8, 2025 (Grants.gov); July 10, 2025 (JustGrants)

FY 2025 Local Law Enforcement Grants for Cybercrimes

  • What does it fund? Supports prevention and prosecution of cybercrimes against individuals.
  • Who's eligible? States, territories, Indian tribes, and local governments
  • Total funding amount: $9.8 million
  • When is it due? August 7, 2025 (Grants.gov); August 12, 2025 (JustGrants)

FY 2025 Training and Services to End Abuse in Later Life

  • What does it fund? Supports efforts to address elder abuse, including physical, sexual, emotional, and financial harm.
  • Who's eligible? Governments, tribal orgs, service providers, coalitions, nonprofits, and faith-based organizations
  • Total funding amount: $13 million
  • When is it due? July 8, 2025 (Grants.gov); July 10, 2025 (JustGrants)

Department of Transportation

FY 2025 High Priority Program – Commercial Motor Vehicle (HP-CMV)

  • What does it fund? Improves CMV safety and enforcement, technology, public education, and data systems.
  • Who's eligible? State agencies, tribal/local governments, higher ed institutions, and 501(c)(3)s
  • Total funding amount: $46.6 million
  • When is it due? June 20, 2025

  • What does it fund? Enhances marine highway transportation as an alternative to landside transport.
  • Who's eligible? Governments, MPOs, port authorities, tribal entities, and private marine operators
  • Total funding amount: $14 million
  • When is it due? July 15, 2025

National Endowment for the Humanities

FY 2025 Public Impact Projects – America's 250th Anniversary

  • What does it fund? Supports public-facing projects tied to U.S. history and the Declaration of Independence.
  • Who's eligible? Nonprofits, governments, tribes, and accredited higher education institutions
  • Total funding amount: $4 million
  • When is it due? July 9, 2025
